1. Population and Labor:
The whole commune has 1,653
households with 8,138 people. Tan Hanh ward is one of the administrative units
with the least population in the city (accounting for 1.35
percent of the total). The natural population growth rate is 11 percent
while the net population growth rate is 2.5 percent. Compared to the whole city
Tan Hanh has a relatively high natural population growth rate. People largely
live along Route 760, mostly Kinh people (aka Vietnamese, the largest ethnic
group in Vietnam) and few Chinese-Vietnamese. The population density is 1,287
people per km2, much lower than the city’s average.
The entire ward has 4,563 people
at working age, of which 4,083 people have stable jobs, 480 unemployed and 1,700
trained. More than 400 jobs are created for people every year, in which
priorities are given to children of policy-benefitted families. Those who are
sent for training have stable jobs and have contributed to improving the ward’s
average income, from VND6.3 million a person in 2000 to VND8.5 million a person
in 2005. The gap between the rich and poor is also narrowed.
2. Land:
The total land area measures
606.08 hectares, of which agricultural land covers 316.73 hectares, including:
230.72 hectares of annual crops, accounting for 82.64% of agricultural land. The
use efficiency is quite high because most vegetables are produced in repeated
crops, meetng the general market demand of the city. The remaining annual crop
land is used to grow rice, covering 83.54 hectares but the use efficiency is
lower than that of vegetables.
Perennial crop land: 48.45
hectares, occupying 17.35 percent of the total agricultural land.
Aquaculture land is 37.56
hectares, accounting for 11.86 percent of agricultural land.
Non-agricultural land: 289.35
hectares, taking up 47.74 percent of the natural land, including:
75.45 hectares of residential
land, accounting for 26.08 percent of the total non-agricultural land.
Residential land is mainly located along Route 760 and some inter-village roads.
On average, the ratio of 481 m2 per household (102 km2 per person) indicates
that Tan Hanh ward has the highest median residential land rate in the city and
this is a typical feature of a rural ward.
Specific use land is 127.54
hectares, making up 44.08 percent of non-agricultural land. The land used for
public purposes accounts for 13.67 percent.
Unused land: the ward has no
unused land.
General assessment:
In general, land is fully used
and the structure of land use is rationally divided, consistent with the local
conditions and features.
Non-agricultural land takes up a
large density in the ward’s land use structure, most of which is land for
non-agricultural production and business. The area of other non-industrial
land has not significantly contributed to drive socioeconomic development in the
ward.
The ward’s agricultural land is
quite large compared to the land for planting key and annual plants.
Agricultural land not only brings economic benefits to land users, but it also
helps protect environment, ecosystems and land itself, making land a potential
resource for city’s construction and development in the future.
3. Electricity and Water
Supplies:
The national grid currently
covers the entire ward and 98 percent of the households have accessed power
supply.
Water supply does not meet the
needs of local people. The ward has a water supply system along Route 760 but
this has not been expanded to the whole ward. Some households living far away
from the pipe network have to use well and river water. The proportion of
households accessible to clean water is only 75 percent.
Waste drainage system: Like some
other wards and communes in the outskirts of the city the waste drainage system
is built along Route 760, so other areas have to discharge waste water into
rivers and lakes. This shortage requires many urgent solutions in the coming
time.
4. Tourist Attractions:
While the ward does not have any
beautiful landscape Tan Hanh Temple has been recognized as a historical site.
5. Mineral resources: the ward
has Dong Tan quarry.
6. Traditional products: Mainly
fine-art ceramic products.
