1. Geological location
Bien Hoa people may have probably
heard about the “Don Market”, a quite humble name which used to be familiar to
generations of Dong Nai-Gia Dinh residents. As a place situated along Dong Nai
River, which has clear blue water flows all year round carrying with cool
airstreams, those who have ever crossed Ghenh bridge have come to present-day
Buu Hoa.
Buu Hoa ward measures 48.25
hectares, in the shape of an unequal quadrangle.
Its north borders Hoa An ward.
Its south borders Tan Van ward.
Its east borders Dong Nai River –
with Bien Hoa city and Hiep Hoa ward on the other bank.
Its west border Binh An commune (Binh
Duong province).
Buu Hoa is only one km away from
the city center in a straight line, with a convenient road system. It is crossed
by rail system toward Ho Chi Minh City (30 km) and National Highway to Ha Noi
(1,700 km). It is also crossed by Provincial Road 1 (to Tan Uyen and Thu Dau
Mot, Binh Duong) and National Highway 51 (to Nhon Trach, Long Thanh, Ba Ria –
Vung Tau). There is a waterway system of Dong Nai River connecting with cannel
system in the Mekong Delta, facilitating trading activities with localities in
the Southwestern region.
2. Wards and hamlets
Buu Hoa ward consists of five
quarters with 97 residential groups.
Quarter 1 has 26 groups.
Quarter 2 has 20 groups.
Quarter 3 has 25 groups.
Quarter 4 has 12 groups.
Quarter 5 has 14 groups.
3. Topography
Buu Hoa ward has uneven terrains.
Quarter 3 - Tan Ban has 5-m high mound land peaked at 11.8 m. Due to the
traditional method of burning forest for cultivation, this large mound land is
barren and poor in nutrients, and abandoned for decades as grazing land. When
facing a shortage of arable land people reclaimed it into farming land to date.
4.Climate and meteorology
Located in the Southeastern
region, the ward’s climate is mild, diverging into two distinct rainy and sunny
seasons. The rainy season starts from May to July while the sunny season is
between December and April every year.
5. Brief history
In the 1881 map of Boilloux the
villages of My Khanh and Tan Ban were cited to belong to Chanh My Thuong
district in Bien Hoa province. In 1939 the two villages of My Khanh and Tan Ban
were merged into Buu Hoa village. My Khanh is the hometown of wife of celebrity
Bui Huu Nghia Nguyen Thi Ton who travelled a long way to Hue to exculpate her
husband, and was awarded with the title of "Liet Phu Kha Gia" by Empress Dowager
Tu Du.
During the resistance war against
the French colonialists, in 1948-1951, Buu Hoa belonged to Tan Uyen district. In
1951-1954, Buu Hoa merged with Hoa An to become Hoa An commune. At the end of
1951, Buu Hoa was brought back to Bien Hoa town. In 1954, Buu Hoa belonged to
Chau Thanh district. In 1955 it belonged to Vinh Cuu district. In 1960-1967 was
part of Lai Thieu district (Thu Dau Mot). And in 1968-1975 it belonged to Bien
Hoa province (U1) and Bien Hoa town, which was an important base for logistics
and information for the town in the resistance war.
Since 1976 Buu Hoa ward has belonged to Bien Hoa city, Dong Nai province. In the ward Long Thien Family House and
Nguyen Tri Phuong Communal House are two historical and cultural monuments which
have been classified as National Monuments by the Ministry of Culture and
Information.
