- Xuan An has the historical relic of Xuan Loc
Communal Temple - Xuan Hoa Pagoda, which is one of the province’s historic
revolutionary sites between the late 18th century and the early 19th century.
Throughout its existence, the historic relic cluster
of Xuan Loc Communal Temple - Xuan Hoa Pagoda has witnessed a lot of historical
events. On the night of August 27, 1945, the Party cell of Xuan Loc’s soldiers
and some other revolutionary facilities and organizations convened an important
meeting to discuss and agree upon the plan of uprising and taking control of the
government of Xuan Loc - Long Khanh in Xuan Loc Communal Temple. The uprising
managed to take control of the government and get it back into people’s hands to
establish Xuan Loc Resistance War Administration Committee.
Today, Xuan Loc Communal Temple has still been able
to preserve the identity of the Thanh Hoang God and the system of horizontal
lacquered boards engraved with Chinese characters, which not only has high
artistic value but is also the basis for researchers to learn about the history
of formation and development of the land of Xuan Loc - Long Khanh.
In addition to Xuan Loc Communal Temple, Xuan Hoa
Pagoda, which was built in 1925, has the architectural style of a Chinese
number-three character, a main compartment where Buddha statues are worshiped,
and a temple gate, which is really a gorgeous architecture.
With its historical and cultural value, Xuan Loc
Communal Temple - Xuan Hoa Pagoda is ranked as the provincial historic site
according to the People’s Committee of Dong Nai province’s Decision no. 982/QĐ-UBND
dated March 28, 2008. This is the intangible cultural value of the historic
relic cluster which is left for the future generations.
- Quang De shrine:
In 1949, the Chinese community set their foot to
this land and reclaimed soil for farming and set up a shrine for Quang Thanh,
Quan Am, and Thanh Mau Thien Hau, as well. In 1974, the shrine was built and it
has been solemnly worshipped up to now.
Every year, on the night of the first lunar month a
monk performs a prayer ceremony, and the 13th day of the first lunar month is a
day when a lot of Chinese Vietnamese from inside and outside the province gather
in a ceremony and pray for a peaceful country and life, favorable weather
conditions, good health, and safety and hold a lantern competition, give
unicorn, lion dance, and dragon performance pieces, and so on, which creates the
atmosphere filled with healthy cultural activities and becomes a useful
playground locals.
The lantern competition is one of the outstanding
cultural identities of the Chinese Vietnamese community to be preserved and
developed up to now. This competition has a long history, and has been preserved
by the Chinese generations for centuries.
Chinese Vietnamese people’s conception is that
winning in a lantern competition is an honor for themselves, for their family
and for their village, as well. They also believe that when they win a lantern
and bring it home, they will get a lot of good luck, have a good health and do
successful business.
Quang De shrine is located on Nguyen Du street,
quarter 1, Xuan An ward. Apart from the aspect of belief, Quang De shrine is
also a place where healthy cultural activities take place, and where the beauty
of traditional arts, festivals, and customs are preserved and promoted to
contribute to making Vietnam’s cultural identities more diverse, richer and
better.
