1. Geographical position
Tam An commune is located 7 km
west of Long Thanh district's administrative center (its east and south border
An Phuoc commune, its west borders District 9 of Ho Chi Minh City, and its north
borders Tam Phuoc commune), with the natural area of 2,597 ha.
2. The area of natural
land
The commune’s total natural
area covers 2,584.66 ha, of which agricultural land spans 167.69 ha, accounting
for 6.49 percent.
Land for perennials covers
151.86 ha, accounting for 90.56 percent of the of agricultural land structure,
mainly used to plant trees such as rambutan, durian, jackfruit, mangosteen and
apricot flower.
Land for annuals covers 15.83
ha, accounting for 9.44 percent of agricultural land structure, mainly for
growing rice harvests of Winter-Spring and Summer-Autumn with an average yield
of 5.5 tons per ha.

The topography of the commune
is flat.
4. Climate
The commune is located in a
tropical climate zone due to little influence of monsoons, so the tropical
climate is quite moderate and hot all year round and divided into 2 distinct
seasons (the dry and rainy seasons). The average temperatures range from 21 0C
to 27 0C.
The number of sunshine hours is
from 1,400 to 3,000 hours per year. The average annual rainfall ranges from
1,500 to 2,000 mm. The air humidity is above 80 percent.
5. Culture and history
Tam An commune, during the
resistance war period was one of the key strategic positions of the revolution
of Long Thanh district. The army and people of Tam An always has a loyalty to
the revolution, determined to save the country and was the first to be awarded
with the title Hero in Long Thanh district in 1978, with the aim of promoting
internal strength for comprehensive economic development, implementing the
economic structure of industry - services - agriculture, exploiting all local
potential and resources, building the new countryside, creating jobs, improving
the quality of profession in culture, health and education; effectively
implementing social policies, improving people's material and spiritual life,
maintaining national defense and security, reinforcing the State organization,
strengthening the unity bloc of people of all walks of life, performing mass
mobilization and executing grassroots democracy regulations. For years under the
leadership of the Party Committee, the solidarity and determination of the
entire political system and the active support from leaders, the entire people’s
enthusiastic support, the commune’s socioeconomic development have been
significantly progressed.
6. Population
The commune has 2920
households, including 11,200 people living in 6 hamlets, with 88 groups of
people.
Ethnicity: 99.95 percent are
Vietnamese while the rest are Khmer, Chinese people.
Religion: 99 percent of the
population follows ancestral worship tradition.
