The number of cases of dengue fever, hand, foot and
mouth is on a high rise
According to Dr. Bach Thai Binh, Director of the
Center for Disease Control, it is now in the dry season but dengue fever, and
hand - foot - mouth disease cases are still high compared to the same period
last year.
Specifically, in one recent week more than 150
dengue fever cases have been recorded. The total number of cases has amounted to
more than 2,400 since early this year. Particularly, the number of hospitalized
cases was more than 1,900, which is 2.5 times as high as that the same period
last year. The hand-foot-mouth disease in children since early this year has
recorded more than 750 cases, up by nearly 40% over the same period last year.
Every week, the province records about 30 - 40 cases of hand - foot – mouth
disease.
The localities that are the “hot spots” of dengue
fever and hand-foot-mouth disease fever are Trang Dai and Long Binh wards in
Bien Hoa city; Phuoc Thien, Hiep Phuoc and Long Tho communes in Nhon Trach
district; and Long Thanh and Trang Bom districts.
In order to proactively prevent epidemics, in the
coming time the Center will deploy the prevention and control of dengue fever
throughout the province. In particular, district health centers must be active
enough to prevent epidemics. “We do not carry out the “kill mosquito larvae”
campaign the same way as before but we take measures to kill epidemic outbreaks
in a specific way”, said Dr. Binh.
The provincial Center for Disease Control will
provide sufficient chemicals and announcing the list of the areas where epidemic
prevention and control should be focused on and hospitals must report on disease
cases every single day.
