As planned, segregating waste at source will be carried out all over the province by 2022; standardizing equipment, instruments and infrastructure in the process of sorting, storing, collecting, transiting and treating daily-life solid waste will be completed by 2020; all the urban areas in the province will effectively segregate solid waste at source, and invest in technical infrastructure in accordance with construction and environmental standards by 2025.

It is expected that domestic solid waste will be segregated at source according to 4 groups: solid waste capable of being recycled; food waste; bulky waste; and other common household solid waste in the period of 2020-2025 and the rate of landfill is reduced to 15%.

In order for plans to be effective, the province will invest in equipment that is used for segregating and transporting waste and having garbage collection and transport socialized by calling for units to join hands in bidding for implementation. The provincial People’s Committee assigns the Department of Natural Resources and Environment to lead, monitor and inspect the implementation of localities; compile, report and propose the provincial People’s Committee to consider and resolve. Particularly, segregating domestic solid waste at source synchronously is necessary to save waste treatment costs, reduce landfill area, and limit groundwater and air pollution, thereby reducing the impacts of climate change.
