People are given instructions on how to segregate waste at source
Currently, Department of Natural Resources and
Environment is continuing to work towards the solutions in the comprehensive
project on how to segregate solid waste at source in the second phase of
2019-2020. The statistical results of the first phase of 2016-2018 show that 8
out of 11 districts segregated domestic waste at source, increasing the total
volume of domestic waste that was collected and treated up to 358 tons per day,
accounting for more than 19% compared with the volume of domestic waste that was
generated in the province (approximately 1,838 tons of household waste is
generated in the province every day).
According to this assessment, segregating domestic
waste at source in the province is still faced up with a lot of difficulties due
to the fact that there is a shortage of synchronous investment, that people are
not fully aware of segregating waste at source, that how waste will be collected
after being segregated has not been agreed with and fully grasped, and that
there is lack of specialized means of transporting garbage after segregation at
households, and so on.
Segregating domestic waste at source has been
carried out in 4 urban wards in Bien Hoa city: Trung Dung, Thanh Binh, Hoa Binh
and Quyet Thang in Dong Nai province since 2013. In 2016, segregating waste was
piloted in districts and Long Khanh city.
